Lace In translation

"I consider lace to be one of the prettiest imitations ever made of the fantasy of nature; lace always evokes for me those incomparable designs which the branches and leaves of trees embroider across the sky, and I do not think that any invention of the human spirit could have a more graceful or precise origin."
Coco Chanel, April 29, 1939

Lace is a very understated material when it comes to wedding dresses and I am not sure why, it is timeless, classy, and beautiful! I remember waking up at 3 am on April 29, 2011 in anticipation of the royal wedding, and when Catherine Middleton stepped out in the now famous Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen dress I just about screamed! She looked AMAZING!!

I was so wanting her to look like the way she always did. Sophisticated, yet regal, and that she did! Usually when I watch "Say yes to the Dress" I always hear "NO LACE!" And the reaction from most ladies I speak to when I say one day when I get married I want a lace dress, I get this look of "what in the world," and they usually say something to the sort of "oh...really?" But I have one friend who is right with me when it comes to this subject, Morgan. She also loves lace and wants a lace wedding dress. Finally someone gets what I've been saying!

Now tell me these dresses don't make your heart jump with excitement! The couple of pictures above (which are of the same dress) is the one that Morgan is in love with, and I have to say I don't blame her. This dress is a part of the Valentino Metis 2008 collection, she also showed me this next one, which I have to say is the one I love the most I do believe!

Just one more! This is the grand finale!!

I hope you all have a great Thursday!!

Summer in the South

Summer in the South, yes it is really hot I know, but there are so many other things that are great about it too. Decorating, finding a new antique store, peach stands, taking that much needed vacation from life and work. Sitting out on the front porch reading a good book, drinking a cold glass of homemade lemonade, and on some nights if your lucky you will be able to fall asleep to the rain falling on a tin roof. I am fortunate enough to live beside a creek and I can listen to the running water whenever I want, that is something great to fall asleep to. The smell right before it rains, the smell of fresh cut grass, catching lighting bugs in mason jars, making sauerkraut, family reunions,  I could go on and on about things I love about summer.

I also love redecorating for the summer! Out with the dark of fall/winter, and in with the bright and colorful of spring/summer! I bring out the new curtains, bedding, and decorations to brighten up my home. I LOVE to decorate, laud if I had the money I would love for my room to look like this...FAB!!! I just love toile, it is so chic!

What are some of your favorite things to do for new seasons?

Hope you all have a great hump day!!

My Very First Friends

One night in the late 70's there was a bond that was forged that would lead to 3 great friendships that has last 30 + years. They were my first friends, they ones I told all my secrets to, played hide and seek, and dress up with. Their names are Talitha, and Talena and they are my two amazingly beautiful sisters! Now I know most of you are now scratching your heads at these names. Yeap you read them right! Talitha is the first born, then its me Twana am the second, and Talena is the baby. My mom had nothing to do with out names, nope that honor was all my dads. He said he wanted us to be unique, and that he accomplished! I am from a very small town, so you can beat that everyone knew our names!

Most siblings that I know are not as close as the 3 of us are, and I wouldn't trade that for the world. Even though life has taken us different places, or will be taking us soon we still talk as much as we can. Talitha is living in the DC metro area and I miss her so much, even though she has been living there for 10 years. Even to this day when I go and visit, as I am leaving I cry. Talena lives with me as of now, but come November she is going off to boot camp. She enlisted in the Navy, and don't get me wrong I am so proud of her, and I know she will be great in everything she does, it's just letting her go that kills me.  I have cried so many tears lately about this, even as I type this I have started to cry. I have never not had one of them with me, and now they are both gone. (sigh)

From left to right: Me, Talena, Talitha

I ask all of you to keep my sister Talena in your thoughts and prayers and she starts this new chapter in her life, and remember me also to help me cope with her leaving home.

                                                              This one cracks me up!
